19th June 2024 Windsurfing: Wrabness Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: smooth Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny periods Max Speed: 5.73 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 5.50 miles (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) Wednesday 19th June – Windsurf * River Stour at Wrabness – sunny periods. Foil – 5.73 knot max , 4.72 knot ave, 3.00 knot hour, 0.00 knot mile, 0.08 km., 0.00 knot alpha. Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Sailworks Retro 7.5. Todays forcast was a moderate northerly turning North East and dropping during the day so we decided to drive out of Suffolk and head to Wrabness for a foil on the River Stour for the first time since 17th August, 2023! With high water around 11 I had plenty of time to sail but we needed to get there fairly early, leaving Felixstowe at 8.30 and had a pleasant 26 mile drive but on arrival there was plenty of water, sadly the wind looked pretty light :( With Mag having breakfast in the van I took my foil board and rigged 7.5 heading out past the weed. I then spent over an hour sailing very slowly across the beautiful Stour and sadly didn’t get flying once, in fact the wind got lighter. There were 3 other foilers out briefly all struggling too. I decided to wobble in and call it a day and hear about Mags day, she had been out walking along the beach and back through the nature reserve:) Walks **** We had an early lunch and then went for a walk as it was still early, taking the lovely the path arched in bushes past the natural buriel wood and out onto the lane, checking out Wrabness church with no tower and the bell in an old timber building in the churchyard! Then we then right down the private road past the caravan site to the beach and with the tide dropping we walk along the foreshore past over 80 wooden huts with the breeze picking up now! Then back to the van we head for home through the lovely Mistly, then we make a detour to Alton Water where we walk to see the Highland cattle, one is really friendly and comes right over to say hello. Then its down to the River Orwell where we stop by the bridge to watch an old barge sail under, then home for a welcome cuppa as Mag plants up loads of plants see bought front from outside someones house I Sutton near Alton, The windsurfing might have been crap but we certainly had a nice day across!Sods law the NE breeze picked up to 20 knots in the afternoon making Felixstowe ideal for a sail around low water but don't think anyone was lucky enough to get out?
